What has your experience been so far?
I have worked as a Technical Product Manager for a New York based company for the past four years. My role requires me to perform a hybrid of activities such as planning, coordination, data scientist, implementation, testing and sometimes deployment. I enjoy being involved in the overall phases of delivering a product.
Walk us through an average day in your role as a Technical Product Manager.
I usually spend the first hour of my morning reviewing my tasks and goals for the current day. After that, as a ScrumMaster, I host my team's standup to keep track of my teams progress and roadblocks. I have a team meeting to plan the maintenance and quarterly releases on a weekly basis to ensure we as a team are meeting our goals. I have a client meeting on a weekly basis to provide status updates on the progress of my team, to determine any additional requirements of the client and provide support as need be.
After this, I take the rest of the day to continue working on whatever I'm working on, try to wrap my tasks up and see if I met my goals or not.
What are few interesting projects you have worked on?
New York City Department of Education and School Construction Authority
Worked on improving the Five-Year Capital Plan by creating a ground-breaking mobile-based building condition assessment software program that was deployed on iPads. Streamlining the agency’s planning efforts with mobile-based software has led to key improvements to the accuracy and efficiency of data collection and reporting across the city’s entire network of public school building sites.
Worked on the Online Capital Plan Development System (oCPDS) and customized it for the agency’s specific needs. The oCPDS gathers and organizes data that is collected locally at each site using iPads and translates it into bite-size projects. The result is that the agency is able to produce accurate projections of the amount of money and length of time required to implement and complete each project.
